was turnin left...went dwn 2 2nd n she completely cut out..abs went..power steerin went...managed 2 start her straight away.
she been doin the whole cuttin out shit wen reversin sumtimes (nt often)
have gt a oil breather pipe prob...which im gnna fix this wkend..do any v u think it could b anythin other thn the pipe?was wonderin if cld b the induction kit...air flow meter needin a clean? been told best way 2 do that is in bucket v petrol??????

If so clean your throttle body out

Common fault on the 8Valves

Dont need to take it off just remove the plastic pipe that feeds the throttle body from air box so you can look into the body. edge the throttle open,clean it with a rag+carb cleaner and your done

either that or the fuel pump relay which is a common fault with the mk3, chrisirish is your mk3 man. next time it happends try to listen to see if you hear some clicking from the fuse box area.

MK3 Forums came back with the T/B but that sounds about right too tbh

yeah worth checking them. but normaly on the relay it wont start up again for a few seconds. untill you'll hear the relay click, then away you go again. think they overheat and cut out yano.

Swap the GTi lump for a VR6 lump

cheers guys ye martian was thinkin throttle body also...the pipes (theres 2..the oil breather n the one leadin into the induction kit) r both..well...fwked...so i think wen i change the oil breather imma do the carb cleaner n cloth too Smile thnx 4 the help Smile
i dnt tink it the the fuel relay bt if after i have sorted the above it happens again then i will check that next..tbh i have my dubstep on 2 loud 2 v even caught any clicks or anythin bt she started as soon as i tried her so im guessin frm wot uv said it prob isnt that

If it happens when your slowing down like at traffic lights then its the throttle body. If it does it randomly as your driving then its the ECU Relay or the Fuel Pump relay...to be honest the amount of hassle I have had with both over the last couple of weeks, just change them!

Yeh I'm grand thanks, got mine from ECP cost £15 for the both of 'em. Obv more expensive in VW. Don't get them from AVW my ECU relay went faulty after 6 months!! Evil or Very Mad

Nah the relays, just a £5 tin of carb cleaner on the throttle body, change the breather pipes for oil breathers?

ahhh iwas suggested one v those by a m8 who has a saxo...bt my tutor at coleg (wen i did the basic mechanics) said itd affect performance?? :/

To be fair the performance on the 2.0 8vs is average anyway, it'll not make a great deal of difference, alot of mechinacs don't like them or induction kits. I replaced my one on the rocker cover with on and then the pipe at the top with one as well.

But if yours is just cutting out when slowing down its is prob the throttle body getting gunked up, spray it, run it, spray it while running. Done. It'll struggle to start and run when its full of carb cleaner, but after it clears its all good!
