Help on my AUM 1.8T
Hey guys!
I was driving home the other day when a warning light started to flash on my dashboard. it was the oil can light flashing and beeping like crazy! So i pulled over, had a look under the bonnet, checked the dipstick (plenty of oil) checked the coolant level and everything looked a-ok...
so jamp back in the car and drove a few miles home, light wentoff as soon as i set off again). But after a few miles a weird noise started coming from the engine... oil light stayed off, temp guage was fine, weird! by the time id got home (3-4 miles later) , the noise was quite noticable and thought that was it, the engine is fucked! But after 10 mins i started her up again and she sounded fine, no rattling or anything!
I was away all wekend so i just took her for a 10 mile drive to see if these "problems" would happen again, but nothing?!?!
My guess is the oil pump being faulty??? or some sensor maybe?? i havent a clue??? Scared to take it for a long drive just incase the engine blows or something?!?! lol
All this happened on my audi a3 1.8t aum btw

Sounds more like a sensor than anything, you'd be best getting it on VAG COM contact Sinster Dubs on here, he has got it and knows his beans about 1.8t engines.

Re: Help on my AUM 1.8T
cheers! ive been on a few audi forums and there is a common fault on these 1.8t's where because some are on a "long life service" every 20k miles, the oil gets too hot and gunky and blocks the pick up pipe in the sump. i just hope this isnt the case as its known to cause top end starvation and blow the turbo!!

yeah this could be the case, if you noticed a noise aswell, then there was oil stravation i should think. mk1's suffer the same problem, with the pick up of oil to the head.

Re: Help on my AUM 1.8T
hi mate, that doesn't sound too good to me tbh, normally oil lights on old dubs you'd say was a faulty switch but not straight away on a 1.8t.
id get oil pressure checked asap an take the sump off to check for gunk before drivin any more. Believe me i know how vulnerable the turbos are to low oil pressure an how expensive they are to have fixed!
if there is a pressure issue it'l kill your turbo very quickly vw's 20k service interval is ridiculous, should change it every 10k max an use the vw LL spec oil...
dont mean to scare you bud but with that engine i wouldn't take any chances, a rattle that happened the same time as the light probably wasn't a coincidence, ya nah mean?
an if you want it checkin out jus giv me a shout! (im a proper mechanic an much cheaper than any garage, an i'll come to you if needed!)

Big Thanks to dan! AKA sinisterdubs, for coming round yesterday and sort out the audi!!
Couldnt believe all that caked oil in the sump and pick-up pipe! could have been a disaster if id have left it!!!
And to Daz for popping round as soon as the kettle had boiled... good timing! ha!
